It is said that, once Goddess Parvati and Lord Mahadev organized a competition between their two sons, Ganesh and Kartikeya, of which Ganesh won. As a result of this, he earned the honour of being the first one to be worshipped during any Puja. With his two wives, Riddhi and Siddhi, Shri Ganeshji grants success, prosperity, wisdom and valour to the worshippers.
Mata Laxmi, the wife of Bhagvan Vishnu and is the goddess of prosperity, success and fame and wealth. A common man life is meaningless without the blessings of the Goddess. It is therefore an accepted fact in the Hindu religion that worshipping Ganesh, who bestows Riddhi and Siddhi (prosperity and success) and Mata Lakshmi who bestows wealth, is of utmost importance in one’s life.
The worshipping ceremony Ganesha and Laxmi is termed as Gauri Ganesh Poojan and results in all-round success. The festival of Deepawali is celebrated throughout India to mark the return of victorious king Ram after vanquishing Lanka and it is believed that on that day, every household was decorated with lamps with ghee and Gauri Ganesh Poojan was performed. Therefore by worshipping Gauri-Ganesh on the occasion of Deepawali, we can earn the blessings of the divine and prosper.
